In a recent blog about Kanchanaburi we talked about how it is one of the most surprising places we have visited in Thailand and in our short break in this area we had the chance to stay at the wonderful, relaxing & peaceful Away Dheva Mantra Resort & Spa which is situated right on the River Kwai.
The resort is only about 5-10min drive from the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai, and close to the town of Kanchanaburi, but it is so quiet and peaceful that you could be in the middle of nowhere, which we loved.
In the centre of the resort is one of the largest swimming pools we have seen, with the resort framing it on 3 sides, the pool area overlooks the River Kwai, and the gardens are immaculately maintained.
Close to the pool area you can gain access to the Fitness Centre, Spa and The Terrace.
The Spa treatment package we enjoyed was so good, and is one of the best we have experienced in Thailand, it was a package that included Steam Room, Body Scrub & an Aromatherapy Massage. Earlier on the same day we also enjoyed a Thai High Tea at The Terrace.
There are several rooms available to choose, ranging from the Superior Rooms to Family Deluxe to one of the different Suites.
We were given the Junior Suite, this had one large room with the bed & sitting/living area, a walk in closet/changing area, a large bathroom with a Bath Tub & Shower & our favourite bit the Balcony.
The balcony is where we spent most of our time, relaxing & enjoying the view over the River Kwai whilst reading a book.
As well as The Terrace, mentioned previously, this resort also has 2 main restaurants.
Rice Barge – This was our favourite of the 2. You can see from one of the pictures in this blog this restaurant is a river house, set right ON the river which adds so much to the experience and it serves yummy Thai food.
Tiara – This is set overlooking the pool area and serves a mixture of International and Thai food. We tried the steak, chocolate cake, soup, pork ribs and more, it was all very tasty.
One thing that we also love about this resort is the price…there are some incredible rooms you can stay in which will cost the higher end, but their most popular rooms, superior or deluxe, can be found for around $60-$80 per night depending on the time of year you go. So if you were wanting to get away from Bangkok for a nice 2-3 night break this would be a great option for a good price.
Overall our stay at the Away Dheva Mantra Resort & Spa in Kanchanaburi is one we would highly recommend, the few days there helped us feel so relaxed. We are so surprised more people do not talk about this incredible area and when we return to Kanchanaburi we would love to re-visit Away Dheva Mantra Resort.
Kanchanaburi is around 2-3 hours west of Bangkok.
There are various ways to get there:
Bus – You can take a bus from either Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) and Morchit Bus Terminal in Bangkok. There are MANY that go to Kanchanaburi each day starting around 4am and leaving every hour. Price is around 150baht.
Taxi – Taking a Private Taxi or using Grab (the Uber of Thailand) is another option, this is a lot more convenient but will cost a lot more, around 2000-3000baht.
Train – This is also an option, but not the easiest choice. You can start your journey from the west of Bangkok, Thonburi Station, but there are only 2 scheduled trains a day and getting to Thonburi Station takes a lot more effort. Price is around 100baht.
